Read the QR code of a Portuguese invoice

The invoice (AT) QR code stores NIF, date, ATCUD, VAT and total. Read it from the PDF or a photo and move the data into a table.

How it works

Invoices issued by certified software carry a QR code with the document’s tax data, defined in Ordinance 195/2020. Instead of guessing values from the text, this tool decodes the QR and shows each field with its meaning: issuer and buyer NIF, document type and number, ATCUD, bases and VAT per rate, total. NIFs are validated. You can drop several invoices and get one row per invoice.

  1. Drop the invoice PDFs or photos.
  2. Check the fields read from the QR code.
  3. Copy the table or download the CSV for accounting.

Limits, stated plainly

Invoices with no QR code, shaky photos or very small QR codes cannot be read; then the tool falls back to reading the text, which is less reliable and labelled as such. The QR does not prove the invoice was reported to the tax office.

Frequently asked questions

Which fields does the invoice QR have?

Among others: A (issuer NIF), B (buyer NIF), D (type), F (date), G (document number), H (ATCUD), I1 to I8 (bases and VAT per rate), N (total taxes) and O (document total).

Can I use this for e-Fatura?

It helps you check and organise your invoice data. It reports nothing to the tax office and does not replace the e-Fatura portal.
